Report on Python workshop at Govt. Arts and Science College, Calicut

About 20 teachers attended the Python workshop conducted at Govt Arts and Science college, Calicut today. Before the workshop, I had a chance to discuss with a few teachers from the math department how they intend to integrate powerful free software tools like SciPy into the curriculum. Rather than teaching a single paper and then dumping it, the plan is to make sure that these computational tools are used for projects and assignments in all semesters of the BSc/MSc course. Going by the seriousness with which they have approached the matter till now, I am sure that we will be able to see some positive changes in the way Math and Science is taught in our colleges! Today's workshop was not very different from the previous ones - the only thing worth mentioning was an attempt to make the teachers use the pymath mailing list and participate in the creation of the Python/LaTeX book (I made one or two teachers join the list as a "demo" during the class itself). Two more workshops are in the pipeline - one at Little Flower college, Guruvayoor towards the end of this month and a follow-up workshop (covering more advanced Python topics) at Calicut in January.
