It was Insignia day 2 today - and it was time for the hack-the-badge contest! I reached the CS department by 2:30 and saw that there were only a few participants. I began by describing how the badge PCB was built using GNU/Linux tools. This was followed by a very brief introduction to the Attiny instruction set and then the participants were asked to code a pseudo-random bit stream generator (based on the linear feedback shift register idea). It was a very simple problem - I awarded a badge as prize to the 5th sem electronics guy who was the first to come up with a solution. Here is a photo of the assembled board - the parallel port connector and the three resistors which are part of the burning circuit are missing. Wait for a more detailed photo-feature on Insignia 2006 ...
